4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS
The Inka Jungle Trail to Machu Picchu consists in a combined adventure aimed at those people willing to experience different types of adventure activities that involve descent on mountain bikes, canoeing, trekking and zip line (optional) during the entire trip to Machupicchu.
DAY 1: CUSCO – SANTA MARIA / CYCLING AND CANOEING
We’ll pick you up from your accommodation around 5:30 am approx. After 3:30 hours of bus trip, we will arrive at the Abra de Málaga (4.350 masl), which is the highest point, from this point after having put on the necessary equipment, we will begin our descent adventure on mountain bikes, this descent It will last approximately 3 hours, passing through small towns, cultivated fields, rivers, streams and incredible landscapes, to then arrive at the town of Huamanmarca and its archaeological center around 1:00 pm. From here we will travel by bus to the town of Santa María where it will be the first lunch.
After having lunch and a short break, we will begin the adventure by the river doing rafting (optional) for an approximate time of 2 hours with class III and IV rapids. Finally, dinner and overnight in a basic accommodation.
DAY 2: TREKKING THROUGH THE JUNGLE UNTIL SANTA TERESA
After having breakfast, we will begin our first trekking day going towards the town of Santa Teresa. The first 2 hours of our journey will be a continuous ascent, where we’ll learn more about the variety of flora and fauna of the area.
During the journey we will make some stops in family houses in the area where we’ll have short breaks, in these places we can get water and taste the fruits of the region, and then continue along a stretch of the Inca trail that connects the area of Vilcabamba with Machupicchu . Here the guide will explain a little more about history of the area. Later, we will descend to the small town of Quellomayo where we’ll have lunch and rest in hammocks, then walking for 2 hours more towards the thermal waters of Cocalmayo, where you will have enough time to take a relaxing bath to can continue towards our final destination of the day: the village of Santa Teresa. Finally dinner and basic accommodation.
DAY 3: FROM SANTA TERESA TO MACHUPICCHU TOWN (WALK AND ZIPLINE)
Early, who has reserved the Zip line (optional) will have an adrenaline morning leaving the group temporarily to realize the activity and then you will join to continue the trip with the group. After having breakfast and enjoying the landscape we will move to “Hidroelectrica” sector, where we will start the trek. This last trek will be approximately 3 hours by rail train, during this stretch you will be able to appreciate the best views and landscapes until get to Aguas Calientes or also called Machupicchu Pueblo.
Finally we’ll stay in the previously chosen and reserved accommodation and in the evening we’ll meet at a local restaurant to dine and plan the visit to Machupicchu next day.
DAY 4: MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO
We’ll wake up very early to ascend to the Archaeological Center of Machupicchu and have the chance to see the sunrise.
The ascent will take an approximate time of 2 hours until the main access, here your tour guide will be waiting you to start an explanatory tour for a space of 2 hours approximately, then you will be able to explore the Sanctuary on its own.
At the agreed time you must descend to Aguas Calientes town to have lunch and board your return train to Ollantaytambo, where our transportation will be waiting for you to return to Cusco and transfer you to your accommodation.
